Traditionally a bride wore the top layer of her wedding veil over her face at the beginning of the ceremony and there are many different theories as to why a bride wore a veil as part of her wedding attire. Some cultures believed that the wearing of a veil warded off evil spirits. While others wore the veil as a symbol purity and innocence. The wedding veil could either be lifted from the brides face by her father after he had walked her down the aisle and delivered her to the groom or the veil sometimes remained over the face until the bride and groom were presented as husband and wife and the groom lifted the veil to kiss his bride. However today's brides have a more relaxed attitude about the wearing of the veil. Some brides wear their veil at the very back of their hairstyle and do not place the top layer over their face at all, which allows the hairstyle to be seen much more.
